Vivísimo recently released version 5.5 of its Velocity search product, and—while the company's motto has been "Search Done Right"—with this new release they liken it to having enterprise search "grow up" and scale up to a whole new level.

Vivísimo has introduced its Velocity 5.5 enterprise search platform, which, the company says, delivers high scalability and fault tolerance to enterprises with growing amounts of data and ever-changing regulatory demands.

Replication and segmentation of indexes are carried out via simple point-and-click interface procedures; the process can take minutes rather than the days that were required previously, the company said.

Underlying the USA.gov site are two complementary search-related technologies. The first is Vivísimo, a search technology that produces clustered results in a manner that makes it easier to pinpoint accurate information.

The new version of the search engine, Velocity 5.5, allows administrators to copy an instance of an index onto additional servers through a simple point-and-click interface.

Based on our scoring criteria for the prototypes, Vivísimo offered the best search results, based on the content and metadata of the NLM Web documents.

Vivísimo, which has also supplied enterprise search services to the U.S. Department of Defense and USA.gov, will power search functions on NLM's Web pages, documents, and archives, the company said Wednesday.

Vivísimo Velocity is selected as Best Enterprise Search Engine for 2007.

Search vendor Vivísimo has the Velocity Search Platform, which uses clustering technology to index and cull information from multiple repositories and data types. In a discovery role, the end users would be in the general counsel's office, not IT.
